FIERCE Seat Cover

THE ASK:

The design team was to create a graphic that will serve as an update to the DIVA sate cover featuring the word "FIERCE". Several designs had already been submitted to the buyer but they didn't like any of them. We were told to draw from Beyonce's latest tour outfit for inspiration (see inspiration section). Some designs using varsity style lettering were also submitted and turned down. We were told to use minimal colours but we could include special materials like rhinestones, glitter, or foil in our designs.

MY ROLE:

Immediately after hearing we were working with the word FIERCE my brain went to cheerleading. Not only is FIERCE a word commonly used in the chher world, but our uniforms often feature bold lettering, flashy colours, and are extravagantly rhinestoned like Beyonce's tour outfit. As cheerleading is very popular in the USA where this product would be sold, this is where I would draw most of my inspiration.

After submitting several designs to the product managers, two cheerleading inspired designs with strategicly placed grey dots (that could be rhinestones, glitter dots or just left grey depending on cost) were chosen to develop further. One suggestion for my yellow FIERCE design was to add the lightning bolt in place of the "I".

SPECIAL NOTES:

Three designers submitted multiple designs. My yellow, lightning bolt "FIERCE" was chosen as the favorite and was sent to manufacturers to develop prototypes.
